I am Niccolò from Primo Ventures. Welcome back to the week in Italian startups, my digest of the latest news from the Italian startup ecosystem.
In this issue I’ll cover news from the last couple of weeks: D-Orbit issued a 100m convertible bond, CheckSig, Feat Food, Exo Lab Italia, and others raised funding. Azimut took control of Mamacrowd, Mooney changed hands, and more acquisitions from Almawave, Tier, EY.

The Money
  • D-Orbit 🇮🇹issued a €100m convertible bond.
  • CheckSig, a bitcoin custody startup, raised €1.5m in a round led by The Rock Trading.
  • Feat Food raised €1.5m in a round led by CDP Venture Capital.
  • Lighthouse Biotech 🇮🇹raised an undisclosed amount from Utopia SIS and Pariter Partners.
  • 4Gifters 🇮🇹raised an undisclosed Series A round led by Sinergia Venture Fund.
  • Blockinvest raised an undisclosed round from Credit Agricole Italia.
  • Exo Lab Italia 🇮🇹raised €500k from Scientifica VC.
  • Keyron 🇮🇹raised €510k from LIFTT to fight diabetes.
  • Stem Sel 🇮🇹raised an undisclosed amount in a project financing round led by LendLease.
  • Serenis, a mental health startup, raised an undisclosed pre-seed round from a group of angel investors.
  • Casavo raised €40m in debt financing to develop the Spanish market.
Liquidity events
  • Enel and Intesa Sanpaolo joined forces to acquire 100% of Mooney, a fintech company, valuing the target €1.385Bn. Mooney had been spun out from Sisal last October.
  • Donaldson Company acquired Solaris Biotechnology for €41m.
  • Azimut 🇮🇹 acquired a controlling stake in Mamacrowd, a leading crowdfunding platform. The asset manager is also launching ALICrowd2, a new, €35m ELTIF that will invest on the Mamacrowd platform.
  • Almawave 🇮🇹acquired The Data Appeal Company for €16.5m.
  • Tier, a German e-scooter company, acquired Wind Mobility’s Italian subsidiary.
  • EY 🇮🇹 acquired Way srl, a performance analysis firm.
New Corporate VC fund from Generali
Generali, a leading insurance group, announced in its new industrial plan the creation of a €250m Corporate VC fund dedicated to insuretech investments.
